چکیده
© 2009 by the Iranian Society of Ophthalmology Published by Otagh-e-Chap Inc. 29 Purpose: To compare laser interferometry (LI) and ultrasound A-scan in measurement of axial length (AL) in eyes with asteroid hyalosis Methods: Twenty three patients with unilateral moderate to severe asteroid hyalosis determined by B-scan ultrasonography images participated in the study. The AL measurements were obtained by LI and ultrasound A-scan in both asteroid hyalosis and noninvolved eyes. The measurements were performed by the two methods as well as for affected and contralateral normal eyes and were statistically compared using the paired T-test. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The ultrasound AL measurements were taken in every case but measurement with the LI method was not possible in 4 eyes with asteroid hyalosis (17.3%). There was a high correlation between LI and ultrasound A-scan measurements in both asteroid hyalosis and noninvolved eyes (r=0.97, P<0.001 and r=0.95, P<0.001 respectively). There was no significant difference between AL taken by either method in asteroid hyalosis and noninvolved eyes. Conclusion: The failure rate of AL measurement using LI was relatively high in eyes with asteroid hyalosis. There was a high correlation between AL measured by ultrasound A-scan and LI method in both asteroid hyalosis and noninvolved eyes.

Measurement of the axial length of cataract eyes by laser Doppler interferometry.
PURPOSE To examine the applicability of the recently developed laser Doppler interferometry technique for measuring the axial length of cataract eyes in a realistic clinical situation. To determine the performance of the instrument as a function of cataract grade. To compare the results to those of ultrasound methods. METHODS A total of 196 cataract eyes of 100 patients were examined. The axi...
متن کاملMeasurement of Corneal Thickness by Loser Doppler Interferometry
The laser Doppler interferometry (LDI) technique, which was recently developed for axial eye length measurement, has been modified to measure the corneal thickness of the human eye in vivo. High accuracy is achieved. The standard deviation of the technique is about 7 nm, and improvement by a factor of 5 is possible. First comparisons with a usual slit lamp pachometer show a general agreement bu...

متن کاملCase of asteroid hyalosis that developed severely reduced vision after cataract surgery
BACKGROUND To report our findings in a patient with asteroid hyalosis (AH) who had a severe reduction of his visual acuity following cataract surgery. The vision was improved by vitreous surgery. CASE PRESENTATION The patient was an 81-year-old man. Following cataract surgery on his left eye, his decimal best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was markedly reduced from 0.2 to 0.02. A large number...
